I wonder if you could provide me with advice on gold metal detectors. Are there any detectors that will specifically detect gold? In some developing countries where some people practice gold panning, what would be an ideal detector to purchase for that purpose?

I have recently found a Carausius Antoninianii
It has him on horseback on the reverse & has a double strike(pretty sure)
could i send you the pictures to take a look
I cant find reference to anything like it

I’ve got the first six in the series but I can’t find the other copies anywhere, has anyone got an idea where I could get them from or the whole collection I could buy but I wouldn’t be able to pay a lot I think £30 would be top price. Please someone help me as I love rocks and minerals as I want to be a geologist when i’ve studied!!!!!

Hi Marc, those two are both in museums as far as I know, I'm hoping that there are more of them out there, currently unrecognized/unidentified because they are so odd. I found a news story about another one found in Herefordshire, theres a link to the story over on the forum.

When are you Brits, so concerned with this Roman helmet leaving your country, going to return all the finds looted from Greece, Italy, Egypt, etc. ? Half the stuff in your museums is the loot of Empire. You seem to want all of your heritage kept intact, but have no qualms about keeping the heritage of others. Cheerio.

Yes I did get in touch with Pentechnic, but had no reply ,I seem to remember, when the machines started to go down on me Stuart of Spinadisc was able to do some repairs but it would seem that the yellow pack in the electronics was apparently a blocker and didnt allow interference subsequently ,I went for a Whites ZX Spectrum ,this is afine machine, however the dig no dig principle ,or straight forward ferrous non ferrous qualities of the arado are ideal for archaeological work, Irecall the fact that i could pick upthe smallest coins and even individual shot gun pellets , it has been suggested that a Saxon X1 is a similar format so will give one a test run,mind you looking through current mags it looks as if I am a bit out of touch, any advice or suggestions greatfully accepted.!!

I have been metal detecting since the late 1960s, in the70s i had various detectors ,which i used with varying degrees of success, until Ipurchased arado 120b and a130 they were both brilliant no frills machines, that were with experience of use unbeatable, I had many wonderful finds ,with them, and working as an archaeologist they were invaluable on site, and on the spoil heaps,when they both developed faults they unfortunately were unable to be repaired,as the manufacturers ceased to give any backup or repair service, devoting themselves apparently to supplying the military,this of course left me with 2 expensive pieces of junk in a corner, hence I was of course delighted to hear that arado were returning into the public sector, i ,made enquiries to the firm regarding putting the old machines back into working order, and of course offered to pay for the work(I did this,as I now am moving to ruse in Bulgaria and wished to donate the machines to our local Archaeological team as they would be invaluable for work out there, funding ,is not good out there) Imyself was going to purchase one of the new models,I recieved the reply from arado, that it would be no longer viable to repair the 120b ,and 130, so I feel that although I stand by my opinion , of the working ability of the early machines,and most likely the new machines, Imyself am going along a different ,track,as although i am not short of money now Iwould not like the same thing to happen again I therefore leave you to form your own opinions on the matter

I have a lump of gold bearing , crystal like rock – you can see small pieces of gold sticking out from the surface. Is there any way I can find out the gold content of the rock (xray?)?

when i was walking to the co-op shop,i was thinking to myself ‘when i’m older i want to start a crystal magazine and give out a crystal each month.’ id not seen any adverts for this magazine and i walked into the shop and there were crystal magazines with a crystal… well gold in it. spooky. i missed a few issues but ill catch up. i got a massive blue agate crystal. MASSIVE!!! ive got the gold from spain, the rose quartz i didnt get the ther two, then i got the agate. what was after the second issue, was is amethyst? what came after amethyst?
