Hi, my partner and I are new to metal detecting and was wondering if anyone could advise us on the places to go. We live in the Cheshire area, and would love some advice to help us on our way. We have been to the beach to practice and to learn the detector but would like to try somewhere new.Any advice and help would be gratefyully received.

Best bet is to get out there on any land available to you and learn how to use your detectors. Good finds are where you find them so be prepared to give anywhere a shot.

A visit to your local library would be a good move, there you will be able to have a look through the local history books and view maps - find out where the old stuff is likely to be in your area.

Using a detector on the beach isn't really the same as using one on the beach, totally different situations requiring different settings on your machine.

Joining a club is always a good idea, check out our metal detecting clubs page to see what is near you.
