Hi,
i am new to this sight and metal detecting so i will give you a quick description of myself and advice that i am after.

8 years ago i purchased a detector but never used it, although i like the hobby and want to do it i found none of my friends or family were intrested and without causing any offence i didnt want to walk around a field on my own looking like a pratt so i am hoping to meet like minded people here that i could maybe seek advice from and maybe detect with to learn the ropes so to speak. This will all come down the line as i need to purchase another detector as i sold mine.

I am going to devon at the end of the month just to have a break as i run my own business and need to have time out and we own a caravan so i am making the most of it. I am taking the kids and decided to buy them both a cheap detector around £30 each so nothing great but just for a bit of fun for the kids due to nothing being open in close season and an exscuss for me to mess around a bit as well.

So in this thread i just wondered if their are any hints and tips you can give and what i may be able to find being in the south of devon. I appreciate i wont have been the first ever to be on this beach but i assume with the sea washing in and out that stuff gets washed up or uncovered regularly. Any help would be appreciated and before all the exsperts starts saying the kiddie detectors are rubbish i do know this it is just a bit of fun for them while we are their for the week so you never know what they / i might find

The kids will certainly find themselves some extra pocket money on the beaches down there. Get in touch with the The Dorset Detector Group, (David Mcgowan. at 60 East Howe Lane, Ensbury Park, Bournemouth, Dorset. BH10 5JF e/mail. mcgowan1@currantbun.com) and see if they have spots open at the club, the members will certainly be able to point you in the right direction!
