Title: diy sand scoop

ive been looking on the internet for a sand scoop and coundnt believe the prices even on ebay so today i thought i would make my own out of an old petrol can

thanks if i can find a bigger drill bit tomorrow im going to make the holes bigger and maybe put some on the sides for more drainage ive tried it on dry sand (kids sandpit) but i think it will struggle on wet at the moment

If you do make further modifications to your scoop, could you please post some more photographs? The scoop looks to be a fantastic, cheap metal detecting accessory and I'm interested in making one myself!

sure will,  i have ordered a 13mm drill bit just waiting for delivery i think having bigger holes will help because i was looking at the one garret sell and it has 15mm holes as soon as ive modified it i will repost the pictures

Another thing that you can use to make a scoop is from the soil pipe that you can buy from any builders yard these are much stronger and can be used in wet sand as well. If you are only going to use in dry sand then use a soldering iron to make the holes this is much quicker.

Now that's a great suggestion, dave! I've always wanted a scoop like this one on ebay but they are crazy money to buy, a piece of soil pipe would work great from making a diy version of that long handled scoop!
