New detector on board

Hi
I have always felt the urge to start metal detecting but have never took the first step.
I have decided that its time to make my first steps but wondered if anybody could point me in the right direction in terms of first kit to buy.

As a footnote I run a website called militaryImages .Net and would be very interested to see any military finds anybody has.

hope I can contribute to this site in the future.

What kind of detecting are you planning on doing? Beaches/farmland etc. What is your budget?
