Hello everyone.
I am a newbee to this forum but not new to the hobby of metal detecting. I live in the USA in the state called Maryland located on the Mid Atlantic Coast not far from the major cities of Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore. MD, and Washington, DC. I have been detecting since the early 1980's here in the US and I have also previously made six trips to England to metal detect. I have detected in many of the organized rallies from 1996 to 2006 and we also have permission to detect on many private farms in the South Central areas of England. We are planning to make another trip over in September, 2010 to attend some rallies and to detect on private farm lands. We have made many great friends during our previous trips and I'm looking forward to making some new friends on this visit.
One question I have is.....which of the rallies that have been listed for 2010 will be the best ones to attend in your opinion? Any input would be much appreciated. Thank you and I will be looking forward to chatting with some of you here on line about metal detecting and also maybe meet you at one of the rallies.
Regards, JM

Any rally is only as good as your luck on the day, you take a big chance going to any rally. The ground could have been detected on for years, or it could be a totally untouched site. You never know until you get there and start swinging!

If you can, give yourself the best chance of having a good rally experience and try and make your trip coincide with several rallies and try going to 2 or even 3 different ones.

How is the detecting in Maryland? Must be lots of colonial stuff to be found around there?

PS. Your car is awesome, what is it?

Hi Tascio, I just came back to this site to see if anyone had responded to my original post. I have been spending most of my time planning our trip over there making reservations, booking flights, etc. It looks like we will be attending the Chesterton, possibly the Nettleton and most likely the Lightwater Rallies. We also have several thousand acres of private farm land that we detect on. We are planning to be in England from September 9th to September 29th.
Detecting here in the Maryland, USA, we find our Colonial era and Civil War era artifacts, relics and coins. Plus. we also like to detect areas that will produce pre 1964, 90% silver coinage and gold/silver jewelry.
The car in my picture is a 1935 Ford four door sedan that looks very much like the English built model 62 Ford or the 1948 Ford Pilot that was also made in England. Our car club, the Early Ford V8 Club of America also has regional groups located in the UK.

Cheers!
