me and the wife took the grankids to largs beach today i took my metal detector and found my first pound coin within five minutes i was hoping to find more but it decided to pour down and we had to leave

Nice one, that detector will pay for itself with pound coins, shame about the weather though!

A little tip for you when you search on the beach dont always go where the footprints are and where you see towel marks on the sand,you will find in these areas but where i get a lot of success from is where you see the bird footprints the reason for this is that is where the people have been sitting eating its where the kids start "mum i want ice cream" it will be where the wallets and purses are opened and sometimes where the gold and silver items are kept. Also make sure that you do not have the discrimation is not set to high you have to find ringpulls to get the small thin rings .

Yep that's some good advice from Dave!

On most 'tourist' type beaches you can pretty much switch the discrimination off all together, this will give you a bit of boost to depth and sensitivty. You only really need discrimination on 'junky' beaches (beaches that have been used for launching and repairing fishing boats etc.) The older pulse induction type beach metal detectors have no discrimination at all and win hands down for depth on wet sand.
