Hello All,
My 11 yr old son is getting a metal detector for Christmas.Being totally wet behind the ears I was wondering what one to buy him but suddenly remembered that I knew someone involved in one of the premier detecting magazines.
This kind soul put me on to the Garrett Ace 150 which after an extensive search got for Ã,£93 from Amazon.
I have read tons of books on the subject and I am praying that my boy will take to it as I've let crafty bits slip aboutI want one for my birthday in May and he seems up for it.(All that money he might find at the beach).
I have already been invited onto some land by a well respected detectorist and am presently in the process of getting permission from a farmer (who already lets me fish his weir) to go over several acres on his farm.
Believe me, if it goes well in the next few weeks I will definately get another machine.
I leave by wishing all our new possible friends and aquaintances a very peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year.

Regards - Dave and Robert

Hi Dave
Bit late in responding.

How have you been getting on in your detecting???
What a brilliant hobby this is. Now the harvest is being gathered in, and the prospect of days in the field is drawing near, it is time to charge the batteries and polish the coils in anticipation of finds anew.

Don,t be lucky, be optimistic and listen to what your machine is trying to tell you ;)

Hello Romany,

As it goes not brilliant because time and land are constant constraints.

However, I've found a lovely little field near to me and on my first visit had a George II coin then my batteries run out.

I will be returning a.s.a.p but in about 5 hours I'll be getting up to go on holiday up to Skegness for the week and hopefully some detecting up there.

Anyhow thanks for replying - Dave
