Hi all

Being a diver and keen hunter of new wrecks, I was wondering if anyone has anyone used or know if its possible to home build a  magnomiter for towed us behind a boat. I am sure I have seen plans on line somewhere but I just cannot find them again.

I have dived on a little known un recorded wreck site locally, which has 5 cannon facing the shore, however I am sure there are more further out but its a large area to cover by scuba alone. Hnce the  magnomiter question.

Don,t worry I am not in to pillage, we are trying to map it as part of a project, then raise one of the guns which is being damaged by rough seas.

Hey Lee,

Have you thought about hiring one? There are loads of sites out there with plans for basic mags, but it may well prove more trouble than it's worth to build and test one from scratch. You could try asking around the dive shops or putting up a note on one of the big diving forums, might find someone prepared to lend you one.

Not a bad idea, :) Its just an idea, it pops back into my head every now and again. The only problem with hiring one is like all detecting its a very long and drawn out project , years. I am at the moment looking at some fairly cheap but workable sdie scan sonar options from hummingbird, wont help with the metal but it should narrow the search areas down a little.

Side scan would be lots of fun to play with! Must be hundreds of undiscovered wrecks up there to look at too!

Are the cannon you've found made from iron?
